As per the Canadian Copyright Act, there is a 29¢ levy on every blank CD sold in Canada. This levy is, in fact, a royalty, set by the Copyright Board of Canada. It is to be collected by all re-sellers of blank CDs and remitted to the Canadian Private Copying Collective (CPCC). The royalty is used to pay musicians and songwriters as a form of compensation for unauthorized duplication of music.  However, businesses and non-profit organizations that do not use blank CDs for personal copying can apply for a Levy Exemption Certificate by going to: https://cpcc.ca/zrtz/callweb.cgi?_proj=zrtz&_lang=EN

 

CDR prices on wimMedia.com include the CPCC 29¢ royalty. However, if you have a valid Levy Exemption Certificate, select "YES" above and enter the certificate number in the field provided. The levy portion will then be deducted from the price.  If an invalid Levy Exemption Certificate is submitted, it may result in the order being canceled or delayed.
